Baby Bunny Half-Star Card Tutorial by Sam Abbott

Baby Bunny Half-Star Card Tutorial by Sam Abbott

Hello Crafters,

We have something a little bit different for you today. During our recent Design Team call, we were sent in this beautiful card from the very talented Sam Abbott. But it wasn't just the card that she submitted, she also wrote up full instructions and a materials listing. And we were wowed! Totally blown away by it. It was too good to keep to ourselves, so, with Sam's permission, we're sharing it with you too, so that you can recreate this fab, kinetic card design.

Read on for a full step-by-step project tutorial, complete with a materials list that has been linked so you can click on each product to be sent to its respective web page, making it easy for you to shop.

YOU WILL NEED:

INSTRUCTIONS:

1 Create a top-fold card base from a piece of 8x11” pale yellow card, scored along the 11” side at 5½”.

2 Create the half star element by cutting three 5¾x4½” pale yellow card panels. Score each along the 4½” side at 1”, 2”, 3” and 4”.  Fold and burnish each score line into mountain folds. Form three square tubes by gluing along the ½” tab. Flatten one tube and apply glue to the bottom-facing right-hand side.  Line up the unglued edge to the edge of the card blank and secure in place. Flatten a second tube and apply glue to the bottom-facing left-hand side. Line up the glued edge alongside the first tube and secure in place. Flatten the third tube and apply glue to both bottom-facing sides. Line up the centre of the tube to the middle of the two tubes already in place and secure. This creates the half star which should pop out.

3 From the pale lilac card cut six 1x5½” panels and emboss with the Baby Footprints embossing folder.  Adhere all to the six faces of the half star, using glue or foam pads, as preferred. Trim another sheet of pale lilac to 4x5½”. Trim a sheet of patterned paper to 3¾x5¼” and layer onto the lilac matt. Affix the matted panel to the right side of the card blank, beside the half star.

4 Stamp the baby bunny, dummy, bow, and flowers onto smooth white card using the Morning Mist inkpad. Cover with Clear Gloss Superfine embossing powder and heat set. Colour, as shown. The examples use the following Copic markers:
Bunny – W1, W2, W3, W4
Bunny features and dummy – E01, E02
Dummy, bow, and flowers – RV63, RV66
Flowers and leaves – Y32, Y35, Y38, YG00, YG03

5 Die-cut using the corresponding dies. Add Sugared Lilac Sparkelicious glitter to the bow and dummy, and a little Sugared Peach Sparkelicious glitter to the bunny ears, as shown. Attach the bow to the bunny and then add the bunny and flowers to the card, as shown, using foam pads. Add the dummy using an Action Wobbler.

6 Stamp the sentiment onto smooth white card using the VersaMark inkpad and Mercury Glass embossing glitter, then heat-set and cut with the corresponding die. Create an outline matt by carefully drawing around the sentiment die on smooth white card and fussy cutting the image. Colour the edge of this matt with RV66 and affix the die-cut sentiment to it with foam pads. This will give a small border to the die-cut sentiment. Affix the die-cut flowers, as shown.

7 Trim pale-yellow cardstock to 3x1” and score along the 3” side at ½”, 1”, 2” & 2½”. Fold in the following order: valley, mountain, mountain, valley, as shown.  Affix this panel to the centre of the half-star and affix the sentiment to the raised flat surface. This allows the sentiment to fold flat but pop out when opened. To finish, attach Sugared Pink gems, as shown.

See why we couldn't keep this design to ourselves? I hope you love this new baby card as much as us and that it has inspired you to create your own!
