Meet the Designer - Christine McMillan

Hello crafters!

Here at Chloe's Creative Cards, we're so lucky to have a team of talented designers who work so hard to produce beautiful, inspiring projects for us to admire and recreate. Of course, we always showcase their work, but we thought it would be nice to get to know them better. So, with this in mind, welcome to our 'Meet the Designer' series!

First up is Christine McMillan, who is brand new to our Design Team. What better way to welcome her to the CCC family than to introduce her to you so you can get to know her better?!

Welcome to Chloe’s Design Team! What’s your name and where do you come from?

Hi, my name is Christine McMillan, I moved from Inverness to Nairn about 20 years ago and have lived here ever since. We are very lucky to have beautiful beaches in Nairn, perfect for walking my beloved Jack Russell, Sasha.

How long have you been making cards and how/why did you start?

I started making cards about three and a half years ago after buying Chloe’s Creative Cards box kit issue 3 would you believe! I copied some of the designs in the magazine and was completely hooked.

Do you have any favourite techniques?

My favourite technique is using clear paste through a stencil and adding lots of Sparkelicious glitter while the paste is wet, I use these for my backgrounds.

Would you say you have a particular style?

I would say my style is pretty, soft, pastel cards, especially pink, with lots of glitter!

Is there a project you’re most proud of?

Yes! I was so proud to have a card featured in Chloe’s Creative Cards magazine issue 6

Have there been any memorable crafty mistakes?

Gosh, loads! I can’t think of a specific one but my most common mistake is upside down cards.

If you could only keep five crafting tools/materials (other than cardstock and adhesive), what would they be and why?

Probably 5 of my favourite pots of Sparkelicious because I couldn’t live without it 😆

What three pieces of advice would you give to someone starting out on their cardmaking journey?

Don’t be your own worst critic! If you're unsure about a card you’ve made, post a photo in Chloe’s FB group and all the lovely positive comments will make you feel much better about it.

If your mojo is letting you down, scroll through photos of others cards on Facebook, Chloe’s blog, Pinterest, and any other source, to inspire you and give you ideas. There is so much inspiration out there!

Finally, if in doubt, add more glitter! 🤣

Do you have any other crafty hobbies?

I love mixed media and try to make some time for it when I can. Recently, I’ve started making wreaths too which I’m absolutely loving!

Is there anything else you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I love walking my dog Sasha on the beach, reading crime books, and I have a small veg patch and herb garden. I love drying the herbs and using them in teas, bath salts and oils.

What are your guilty pleasures?

Pepsi Max, coffee and ice cream! I consume huge amounts of all three! 🙈

What three words would your friends use to describe you?

I’m not sure; maybe creative, independent and definitely loyal.

Tell us something that people may not know about you.

In my previous life I was a bank manager.

I’m so glad I came upon this page! I have pinned so many of your cards from Pinterest and admired how you used the Chloe dies and glitter. You are super talented if you’ve only been making cards for 3+ years—I’m at two years and not anywhere near as good. Sending greetings from Los Angeles—Nairn and Sasha look amazing.

Hi Christine. I have seen and commented on your amazing cards on Facebook. You are extremely talented and I’m am very excited to be able to watch tutorials by you. I’m a “pink” lady like you although I am relatively new to card making so my cards are nowhere near as gorgeous as yours but I’m trying. I especially love the fabulous flowers you make and can’t wait to see how you do them. All the best on your new role
